Boo Boo: A Playful Display Font That Puts Personality on Your Brand

Last Tuesday, I sat at my kitchen table—coffee cold, sticker sheet half-peeled—and stared at the label draft for my new lavender-vanilla soy candles. It was clean. It was legible. But it wasn’t me. Not the warm, slightly whimsical, hand-poured-and-loved vibe I talk about in every Instagram story and whisper to customers at local markets. Something was missing—not a color, not a photo, but voice. That’s when I tried Boo Boo.

Boo Boo is a display font with serious charm: bubbly letterforms, friendly curves, and just enough bounce to feel like a wink from your favorite Halloween party guest—even if you’re not selling pumpkin spice anything. It’s not spooky. It’s sweet, spirited, and full of quiet confidence. Think rounded ‘o’s that look like little ghosts holding hands, a lowercase ‘g’ with a cheerful loop, and uppercase letters that stand tall without shouting. It’s the kind of typeface that makes “Handmade with Love” feel like a promise—not a tagline.

I started small: swapping Boo Boo in for the candle jar’s scent name (“Midnight Bloom”) on a mockup. Instant lift. Then the bakery next door asked me to help refresh their holiday cupcake box—so I used Boo Boo for the flavor title (“Caramel Ghost Swirl”) over a soft cream background. Customers paused. Smiled. Took photos. Not because the cupcakes changed—but because the packaging suddenly felt more intentional, more alive.

That’s the quiet power of a strong display font. Boo Boo isn’t meant for paragraphs or ingredient lists (it’s not a workhorse text font—and doesn’t pretend to be). It shines where attention matters most: logo lockups, product names on jars and tote bags, greeting card headlines, café menu specials, social media banners, and even the tiny “Thank You!” stamped on handmade soap tags. It works beautifully on mugs, stickers, digital ads, and presentation slides—anywhere you want warmth, memorability, and a dash of delight.

What surprised me most was how quickly Boo Boo helped unify things. Before, my brand visuals felt like a collection of good ideas—great photos, lovely colors, thoughtful copy—but no through-line. Boo Boo became the visual “tone of voice” I’d been searching for. When paired with a clean, friendly sans serif (like Montserrat or Inter) for body text, addresses, or care instructions, the contrast feels natural—not fussy. For a beauty brand or boutique, try Boo Boo with a delicate serif (think Playfair Display) for elegance, or with a relaxed handwritten font for a personal touch on thank-you cards or gift notes.

Readability? Boo Boo holds up well across formats—but keep context in mind. On a 2-inch candle label, stick to short phrases (“Vanilla Fog,” “Berry Bramble”) in larger sizes. For Instagram thumbnails or mobile banners, use it at medium-to-large scale with generous spacing—it’s designed to breathe. On printed packaging, test print a sample: its rounded shapes reproduce beautifully on matte paper and foil-stamped boxes alike. Just avoid cramming it into tight spaces or shrinking it below 16pt for small physical labels.

Before dropping Boo Boo into client work or mass-produced merch, I double-checked the license—and was relieved to see it’s a commercial font with full usage rights for physical products, digital templates, online shops, and even resale items like printable party kits. It comes in OTF and TTF formats, includes standard ligatures and stylistic alternates (like a dotted ‘i’ or swashy ‘y’), and supports multilingual Latin characters—enough to cover English, Spanish, French, and German product descriptions without hiccups. No hidden limits. No surprise restrictions.

Using Boo Boo hasn’t made my business “Halloween-themed.” It’s made it more *human*. Whether it’s the playful “NEW” badge on my website banner, the bold “Small Batch” stamp on a skincare serum bottle, or the joyful “You’ve Got This!” headline in my coaching newsletter, Boo Boo adds consistency without rigidity. Customers tell me my branding “feels like chatting with a friend”—and typography plays a bigger role in that than most of us realize.

First impressions happen in under two seconds. And while people don’t consciously think “Oh, what a lovely display font!”—they do register warmth, care, and intention. They remember how something made them feel. Boo Boo helps deliver that feeling—gently, consistently, and without trying too hard.

If you’ve ever refreshed your logo only to find your packaging still looks disconnected—or posted a gorgeous flat-lay only to realize the text feels flat—try Boo Boo as your visual punctuation. Not the whole sentence. Just the exclamation point. The smile. The little wave that says, “I’m here—and I’m glad you are too.”

It’s not magic. It’s smart typography—chosen thoughtfully, used intentionally, and working quietly behind the scenes so your products, your message, and your heart all land exactly as you mean them to.
